First of all, a bit of background: during the 2010-2011 season, Tantarantana Theater started an activity of creative workshops with young teenagers. In that first edition, a workshop was created, directed by the Algerian dancer, choreographer and musician living in Toulouse (France) Medhi Hadjar. It was a workshop in which 15 young people from IES Miquel Tarradell and IES Verdaguer in Barcelona had the opportunity to work on the relationship between words, movement and music in the process of creating two songs, and which was made possible thanks to the support of IMEB.

Si existeix l’altre potser també jo (If the other exists, perhaps I exist) is a work in which two stage directors (Roberto Romei and Julio Álvarez), two choreographers (Constanza Brnčić and Teresa García) and a playwright (Albert Tola) go to meet a group of teenagers of various ages from Barcelona’s Raval neighbourhood to understand with them and express what “adolescence” means in a meeting point of international miscegenation such as this district of the city. Based on the tension between words and gestures, the show explores the moment when awareness of one’s own identity appears in people’s lives, the difficult balance between one’s own vision of oneself and the gaze of the other as self-discovery, the fascination for the other and the relationship of oneself in the group, that is, the growing awareness of the limits between oneself and the other in this passage between childhood and adulthood.

This workshop-performance that we now present to you is the continuation of the experience started last season. On this occasion, we worked with 25 young teenagers in coordination with three entities of the Arrabal: IES Milà i Fontanals, Taller Xamfrà and also Associació de joves del Raval. To carry it out, we have counted on the advice of the Fundació Tot Raval, the cession of a rehearsal space of the Cooperativa Impulsem and, once again, with the economic collaboration of the IMEB.
